Sound Designer Spotlight: Alexey Trubin (Trual)
Hi Alexey! Thanks for your time. First, can you tell us a little bit about your background. Where are you from and how did you start creating music?
I live in the city of Barnaul – Altai is the Southwest of Siberia.
I will tell you honestly – I did not study at any music school. In 1998 I found a CD with music from the band Metallica, and on that disc there were notes for a guitar :). This is when I started to learn play guitar. Soon I started writing music with the guitar and computer and thinking more about creating full songs. Next, I started doing music for games and that was my first experience with electronic music.
I’m using Windows as my operating system and I make music with following programs: EnergyXT, Steinberg Cubase, Cakewalk Sonar, FL Studio. I choose the software depending on requirements of a track. But my main tool is EnergyXT. I studied programming and I work as a programmer. I have also developed some VST-plugins. I have simply a computer, M-Audio Solo audio interface, an electro-acoustic guitar and a dynamic microphone, but I would not name it a home studio. As I also spoke already, I play guitar. I play bass guitar as well, but I do not record with it – it very old and with bad sound quality.
My favourite genres are punk, nu-metal, alternative.
Key influencers? – I do not know. I have favorite groups: Metallica, Sepultura, Nirvana, Exploited, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, etc. But I do not listen to music by others before I start to think out the theme for a new song. The first thing that is necessary is silence, and then the music comes out of my head naturally.
How do you start a new project? What’s your process in composing a song from scratch?
Like I already said, a new project begins with silence, me playing the guitar and recording it. Next, I’ll use the computer to write different elements for the song, such as drum patterns, bass, rhythm section, effects etc.
I’ve learned a lot on Audiodraft. I’m not afraid to tell you – I needed to study various music styles and production styles to create certain types of musical material. And there’s so much more to learn!
And yes… I would like to tell you: Thanks for your work! You do things correctly and the company has a big future! It is an excellent starting field for beginning and professional musicians from every corner of the world.
Thanks Trual!
