(for TV SPOT)
TONE/FEEL:
The song we use will be upbeat, danceable indie pop/rock with a retro-made-new feel. It has to have a little edge and attitude.
Lyrics aside, we’re looking for a tempo and vibe like “Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psdJcrNda84), especially 1:58 through the end of the song because of the pick-up.
We also like the instrumentals and vibe of “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuK6n2Lkza0), especially the build-up at the beginning.
LENGTH & SCOPE:
The initial spot this track is being designed for is a :60, but there needs to be more than enough of it to edit multiple ways.
There needs to be a range of intensities: relatively mellow sections, distinct pick-ups and more intense, climactic, “let loose” sections (like the example songs mentioned).
Non-words (oohs, ahhs, na na nas, etc.), simple phrases and verbal motifs (“let’s go,” “come on,” etc.), and “rocker screams” in the style of the “Everybody Talks” and “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” vocals are encouraged, as long as any words used are brief, encouraging and not distracting. There will be a voice over.
ADDITIONAL SPOT DETAILS:
Video will feature everyday people casually, confidently bopping along to the song in the background as they go about daily activities, like making a salad or checking off a to-do list. They’re dancing because they feel good physically and emotionally. It’s a sort of involuntary “celebration dance.” The song in the background needs to make the listener feel that way, or at least imagine and want that feeling.
