Design brief

About this Challenge

The aim of this Challenge is to help create a playlist of songs to use as background music for our upcoming "The Power of Audio" event in Helsinki. You may choose 1–3 genres (specified below) for your application.

The winners of this Challenge will gain visibility among our clients and have their songs played to an audience of 150 industry professionals at our event. We will promote your music as part of our 'The Power of Audio' campaign in 2017. The winning entries will be played in the morning while guests arrive and mingle with one another before taking their seats and beginning the presentations. Selected entries will also be addd to our Instant Tracks catalogue.

We are looking for tracks which are soft and gentle, yet energetic and feel good. This fine line is what makes producing a Morning Music track so difficult. It has to be soft without being sleepy, energetic without being obnoxious, and familiar without being boring. We want guests to feel energised, awake and talkative. Please avoid ambient entries. We want melody.

These are the 5 moods you can choose from:

1. Melodic Lounge and Neo Soul
   We are looking for easy going tracks with plenty of swing to shake the morning sleep out of the eyelids of participants.


2. Jazz.
   This genre keeps the ear interested with its inherently interesting chord progressions and surprising compositions. We are not looking for anything too out of the box and experimental. Soothing is the key word for this Genre


3. LoFi Hip-Hop
   Retro sounds with subtle and gentle hip-hop beats. Subtle and mid tempo are the directions to take this entry. Please be careful with the copyright of any samples used.


4. Groove
   Melodic music with a twist, we are looking for a groovy looping melody with a little bit of progression to keep things interesting and a touch of swing


5. Bossa Nova
   We want to hear sunshine, freshly brewed coffee and plenty of feel good positivity.

You may submit 1–3 entries. Note that you are not guaranteed to score higher by submitting many different moods, so please stick to what you know best. In other words: quality before quantity! The most important thing is that you really capture the essence of the brief and be comfortable and familiar with the compositions of the genres you choose.

If you choose to use acoustic elements, please ensure that the quality of the recoding used is of a high production value. The same goes with Plug-ins, if your string plug-in sounds inauthentic, it will score lower.

There is a bit more room for interpretation with this challenge. High production value is crucial, so please avoid any cheap, generic samples. Please specify the genre of your choice in the entry title.

IMPORTANT! Please keep your compositions below 4 minutes in length with a minimum length of 2min 30. Submission outside of these parameters will receive one star.

The best of the winning entries will gain extra visibility among our clients.

About Instant Tracks

The Challenge winners will get the chance to upload their work to 'Instant Tracks'.

'Instant Tracks' on Audiodraft is a pool of custom music instantly available for licensing. By uploading your tunes to 'Instant Tracks' you will be able to create a bank of music that can be used immediately as is, or with modifications according to a Sourcing User's needs. This way you won't always have to start working from scratch when there's a production on Audiodraft that matches your skill set. (Please keep all your sessions well stored and organized!)
